Windows Defender Problems & Errors

January 2007

As of December 31st, 2006, we've been receiving many calls from users related to Windows Defender problems/errors encountered when first starting their computers. There are two probable causes of this problem/error, the solution is the same in either case. Windows Defender Beta #2 actually expired on the 31st and it seems that rather prompt the user with a sensible message to that effect, it triggers an error and simply refuses to start.

Solution to this problem:

  1. Uninstall the existing installation of Windows Defender via the "Add / Remove Programs" applet within "Control Panel"
  2. Reboot your computer (shut it down and restart it)
  3. Download and install the current version of the software from the Windows Defender Download site

And... you should now have a fully functional Windows Defender again. If this sounds too messy, or you get stuck or hit a problem, feel free to give me a call on 0407-311-198 and I'll be more than happy to come to you and fix this problem, or any others you may have, for you - for a fee.
